Tour Description

12 Apostles Dec 9 2017 compressed

Take advantage of the longer daylight hours during our summer time and avoid the crowds!

This totally unique Great Ocean Road experience travels in the reverse direction (West to East) – arriving at the famous 12 Apostles region in the morning, before the major crowds and takes advantage of the best lighting opportunities for your photos. (The photo shown was taken on our tour on December 6, 2017)

Not only that, we have worked hard to source the very best of the regions produce artisans to capture not only the sights but the hidden tastes of this region to complete your experience.

The Experience

This tour travels the full length of the Great Ocean Road and includes the same sights as experienced on our Classic Tour, however the extended daylight period of our summertime allows us some added advantages:

  • We leave slightly later (between 7:30-8:00am from central Melbourne locations) allowing you to enjoy a full breakfast before joining us  – it is a long day!
  • We enjoy a fabulous lunch (included) at the seaside town of Port Campbell, where the menu focuses on local produce. Extensive choices including vegetarian, vegan and gluten free
  • More time exploring the 12 Apostles and Shipwreck Coast regions
  • Taste the regions best – from Chocolate to Cheese to Ice-cream to Wine and more – it’s all included! Our route and truly small group size allows us to visit the smaller boutique producers no-one else does.
  • Our last leg on return to Melbourne  – after a long and fulfilling day – is less than half the time of our classic tour because we travel the Great Ocean Road in the reverse direction.
  • Return – approximately 8:15pm to Melbourne.

Our trip from Melbourne heads down the highway and inland through the country towns Winchelsea and Colac (brief bathroom stop here and quick stretch of the legs). Our guides will tell you all about Melbourne and the regions history as we build to our arrival at the Apostles. Even our Aussie guests tell us they learnt things they never knew about our country!

Our first ‘official’ stop is at a fabulous small family run chocolate factory where you can enjoy a barista made coffee, tea or hot chocolate (the best we’ve ever tasted – 6 varieties!)  – included – as you sample their excellent range of hand made chocolates. Stroll the grounds and say hello to their farmyard animals as you enjoy your drink….

Only a short trip then before arriving at the 12 Apostles. We will spend at least two+ hours exploring this region including, Gibson StepsLoch Ard Gorge, Island Arch and Razorback. You will be armed with all the knowledge and stories you need to fully appreciate this wonder as you explore this at your leisure. We fully guide our guests across all these regions as we recount the stories of survival and tragedy of the early settlers voyages to Australia.

Freshly prepared lunch (drink included) at the seaside village of  Port Campbell.

After lunch we go Kangaroo spotting in the wild.

Heading back along the Great Ocean Road as we leave the Shipwreck Coast, we encounter the cool temperate rainforest of the Otways and its towering Mountain Ash Eucalypts and ancient Tree Ferns. Can you imagine this is what all of Australia looked like 200 million years ago?!

Arriving at the town of Apollo Bay, come with us to try the country’s most awarded ice-creams. Once again, a family run business, they have won over 300 awards nationally from this one location. Sample as many as you like. All made from natural ingredients on the premises. Choose your favourite scoop (included) to enjoy as you stroll the village and its beaches.

Our journey then takes us along the most beautiful stretch of the Great Ocean Road where it hugs the cliff faces and sweeps along the beaches through Kennett River to Lorne. We will make multiple stops here (we always choose the best based on the prevailing lighting on the day) to get you the best photos

It’s along here we will  go searching for Koalas in the wild and, if we’re lucky, have the multitude of native birds join us (some may even land on you!) from King Parrotts to Crimson Rosellas, Kookaburras to Cockatoos…

Memorial Arch, just before Anglesea, is where we will pay homage to those who built the road and tell the story of the true meaning of the ANZAC tradition.

We will then head up to a beautiful viewing point above Anglesea to enjoy the sun as it lowers on the horizon, catch a last glimpse of the road before we head home and enjoy a selection of fine local cheeses whilst sipping on your choice of a locally produced glass of red or white wine. What a way to finish the day!
